As of 1970 populations of both sharks and rays have declined by an approximately 71% (Pacoureau et al., 2021).


Sharks are vital to the ocean ecosystems as they ensure it remains balanced, sharks contribute to overall biodiversity, and ultimately ensure maintenance of healthy oceans of which both marine life and humans rely on.
